Having gone through this my suggestion is to pick a type and then put in the work (including emailing and phoning) to find an example of the type in the condition you want, or that can get there for a reasonable known cost.

For me that was a G-reg post-restart, pre-G1000, non-turbo C182, of which there were only 20 or so on the UK register, so not a long list to work through.

I would eventually have considered N-reg as the effort to move “me” to N reg is easier than moving a plane N→G.
