Garmin / Avidyne / Jeppesen +V Advisory Glidepath / Glideslope, does it ever breach stepdown fixes, and does it exist for non-GPS IAP airports?

Garmin just says it’s a „specified“ glidepath. So I’m wondering if it’s always a 5% path to the MAP, even on say a VOR approach with 7% path. Could be dangerous…

Do you have an example of such an approach that I could try?

There is no +V on a VOR approach.

Yes, there is.

That works because there is a GPS IAP also:

However, one could settle this debate by looking at what e.g. LGST offers you

I believe @ncyankee once wrote that +V is limited to runways which have a GPS approach.

It works!

Peter,

With the current version of software on the GTN xi series, +V is available on many VOR and NDB approaches that are straight in. It is not available on the GTN (not xi) series except for GPS based approaches. Search the following document for “VOR+V”

I never been that far but 100% I will have VOR+V over there !

Edit: @arj1 has proved it works on GTN simulator

What a learning experience this is!

So you really do want the Xi versions!

GTN xi simulator.

Yes it was Xi, my bad the GTN (not xi) will not show it at LGST VOR…

Are there any Avidynes versions with similar capability?

According to many threads here, Avidyne IFD boxes also offer +V. What I don’t know is whether they offer it if SBAS is not available, but that isn’t so important because SBAS is practically always available in Europe. Somebody can also check on an IFD sim what LGST shows…

There is also this on the Garmin “totally DIY” approach mode; not sure if Avidyne ever did that.
