No SID after a low approach @ EDDG and EDLV

…and I got a SID again. The new policy did not live long, it seems.

Where? And did you fly another approach after this one?

EDLV, did just one approach and then the SID…

Ok, so that‘s two reasons why you haven‘t been cleared for the MA. 1) EDLV is not operated by DFS, thus their instructions have no impact on ATC units operated by other parties and 2) the new procedure applies only to repeated approaches. When, after the approach, you depart IFR to a different airport, then of course they still need to clear you for a SID for Eurocontrol reasons.

If you leave the airport after the approach with an IFR plan, you need to take a SID because the missed approach does not necessarily take you to a place where you can enter the airway system / leave IFR.

So you can’t divert to another airport in case you are unable to land and fly the missed approach if the visibility is too poor?? Sounds like a (German?) ATC excuse to me that a SID is required to rejoin controlled airspace. I thought most (if not even all) missed approach end points in Germany are in controlled airspace and above MVA so ATC should be able to give you a vector.

Sure you can – but that is an exception in case of bad weather not a routine procedure to start with a new flight plan. That exception creates exceptional work for ATC in finding and coordinating your route with other sectors. Therefore in such situations you would typically fly into the IAF-Hold after missed and wait there until ATC has figured out a way to get you to the alternate w/o interference with other traffic.
In addition to that, typically the bad weather alternates are well known to ATC so that at places with frequent marginal weather it is almost a standard procedure to get you there.

To cut a long story short: It would be possible to start a new flight plan out of the missed approach but it is something that ATC understandably doesn’t like to do.

The ‘new policy’ also does not seem to be active at EDLW Dortmund, yesterday I was assigned the DOMEG 2U SID in between (low) approaches. As suggested by @boscomantico this should be because EDLW is also not operated by DFS, and then I guess they have different policies? After checking online it looks like you have mainly 2 operators; ‘DFS Aviation Services’ and ‘DFS’.

Could not really be the reason – did you ask for the missed after you got the SID clearance?

Germany

I did not ask for it. Last week I was also getting the SID in between low approaches at EDLW, so the SID seems to be the standard. It doesn’t botter me, actually I didn’t know better as I only trained consecutive approaches in Germany. A missed approach would be slightly more convenient for navigation, as earlier mentioned, it requires some programming in the GTN to get the SID in :)
