Of course; the TAFs should be more reliable than an area forecast at this range, for stuff below the cloudbase.
OK, we are going to come. ETA approx 1100z. As we have some tourists, we will likely eat pretty well straight away before going into Calais. So prob be in restaurant from 1200-1330. You will hear us!
ok, then i'll come driving. Hard to believe it's flyable, though, last flakes of snow are falling hear (NNW Brussels)
Light snow 10nm N of EGKA, cloudbase not visible but perhaps 1500ft. Vis good. Temp +0.1C.
CAVOK at Lelystad but my co-pilot has called in sick so we are out :(
35 - 40kts wind would also have made it a very slow journey home.
500ft overcast and less than 0 degrees rules me out I'm afraid.
I am afraid I bailed out. The forecast for low cloud, low temperatures, light snow and gusting winds up to 28kts, and the lack of any anti-icing at all kind of put the flight outside of my aircraft and perhaps pilot abilities. Shame :-( Maybe another time though :-)
Conditions were much better than forecast. Two aircraft flew in and we had one drive in! Not to meet some people from the forum! Photo to follow.
We had myself, Aeroplus and Jan Olieslagers. A nice lunch even if Aeroplus sort of missed it!
After meeting you guys in Calais we pressed on to Guernsey for diner before flying home to Rotterdam. After all a nice flying day with generally good flying conditions. No ice experienced and a cloudbase generally at 3000 feet of higher.
Looking forward the next fly-in.
Here we are:
