UK GAR form discussion, and UK border police procedures

just found out via autorouter, that I need to file a GAR form 12 hrs before the flight.

That is only a UK requirement if flying from the UK, which I guess will not be the case here. If you fly from say Germany, no PN period applies.

Looks like this is not programmed correctly into the autorouter software.

I haven’t got a reference but I think you complete the GAR on arrival in Guernsey.

That sounds pretty convenient, thanks.
Let’s play that scenario with a flight to UK. What happens?

EU inbounds, all EU citizens, generally need 4hrs PNR via the GAR.

Outbounds need no GAR.

What the inbound PNR is for a “farm strip” I don’t know. It may be the same.

The following link shows under point 3: https://www.gov.gg/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=92442&p=0
Once fully completed, and no later than immediately after arrival or prior to departure, the original copy should be lodged either:

or

I don’t think any of the above applies to your flight from Germany
Flights to the CI from or to the UK you have to either fly from an airport with Special Branch or give 12 hrs notice to Special Branch. So far as I am aware you can arrive in the CI from anywhere else, any time you like, within published customs OH.
The standard wheeze for UK residents is to fly to Cherbourg then to the CI, although technically this is not Cricket

Thais @all for your comments.
I think we will have police/customs in Germany or France check our passports and then just fly. I’ll report back in a few weeks.

A passport is required for the GAR but not for the actual travel

Going from the UK to the Channel Islands or Isle of Man, no passport is needed.

But you absolutely do need passport details to file the GAR, especially if using the onlinegar.com website which won’t let you save the form otherwise.

Is this intended? IOW, travel by GA suspends the no-passport concession?

I seem to remember when the original GAR app was being developed, that Passport details were optional. I was surprised by that and questioned it, and was told that Border Force explained that it wasn’t compulsory.

But I’m sure if you left it out, you are much more likely to be visited.
