@Dan – Go for it – highly recommended!

Pics of the day… went South to the pizza joint. For a change
Still quite windy in the Alps meaning 2 choices: go high, FL150 (MIL off today), or go low and thread your way above the cols and ridges…
Surprisingly very little snow to be seen, much less than I expected. We had some intense precipitation in the last 2 weeks, but the temps are pretty high for the season, 8°C on the ground this afternoon.

Riding the Swiss – Italian border, and looking at the Grigna Settentrionale floating afar…

Well know cliché, the E – M – J with the Lauterbrunnental in the foreground

And the Pilatus with the city of Lucerne (and the MIL airfield of Emmen left) in the background

Flooded areas of the Elbe River, near Magdeburg.

Approach into Leipzig EDDP.

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

Pic of the day… flying over the Aletschglacier, looking straight into the North face of the Dreieckhorn, with a pointy thing in the background… surreal atmosphere in the Alps today…

That is really surreal as you say!

Not a lot of space between the cloudbase and the granite, either

Interesting! Are runway conditions the same as on the refuelling apron? If so, what is the typical ground handling of the aircraft like in such scenario?

Usually, yes. In this case there were a few cm of loose snow on the runway as the apron had been more recently cleared.

The major issue is the reduced braking action. This is particularly noticeable on engine runup as the aircraft might begin sliding on locked wheels. You frequently have to do the runup at a reduced power or be very quick and accept that the aircraft slides a few metres.

The most important thing is not to apply the parking brake during runup because then you will have no means of steering the aircraft if it starts sliding. Once a club member slid into a snow wall during runup with the parking brake on. He didn’t at first notice what was happening and when he did, he couldn’t steer. The result was a shock load inspection.

You may also have some difficulty tracking the centreline on takeoff, particularly with a crosswind from the left. Landings are less difficult as there is no propwash that pushes the nose to the left.
