Got the license, how to build up experience and confidence?

https://www.eurocontrol.int/articles/ais-online might also be a good starting point when looking for stuff – currently checking out Hungary.

Absolutely. Peter already has multiple articles and guides, some here on EuroGA, some at different locations. Maybe we can get one page with links to the others (as an easier solution than supporting a wiki, although the idea for a wiki sounds very good)

@Peter: What do you think of collecting those charts in one location for everybody to be able to find and maybe add new ones? Shall we create a topic or an aricle?

I already have these charts:

UK: http://metutil.appspot.com/static/maps/48HourWarningRestrictionMap.htm
Poland: http://www.amc.pansa.pl/strefy_amc_nowe.php?nr=7126
Slovakia: https://aim.lps.sk/web/index.php
France: https://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/asp/frameset_uk.asp?m=39
Switzerland: http://www.skyguide.ch/en/nc/services/aim-services/dabs/

Is there a product similar to the Swiss DABS which gives you a current presentation of the active restricted areas for other countries?

Yes, there is one for Poland: http://www.amc.pansa.pl/strefy_amc_nowe.php?nr=7126 – if the link changes one can find it from: http://www.amc.pansa.pl/?menu_lewe=mapy&lang=_eng

Slovakia also has one, you need to go to https://aim.lps.sk/web/index.php and create an account for free; once you log in, a “Chart” link (and several others) will appear in the top menu.

What comes to mind would be DR navigation skills

I would not fly across Europe using DR. I’m afraid to say the only time I use it is if I have to ‘dance’ for the examiner – training needs to move on.

IMHO, the fine was imposed because the CAA had its back to the wall politically. High public profile events are a problem…

That improves flight safety tremendously, I’m sure…

Well, tongue in cheek or not, going from A to B is indeed a large part of the core PPL training, something everyone know how to do, both in theory and practice.

Yes, as far as navigation goes. But when it comes to dealing with unknown airports (flight and ground procedures, opening hours, fuel availability, fees, PPR etc. etc.) it’s a very different matter. And I think that’s where the uncertainty is.

Maybe they should be renamed the “Red Circles Team”?
