Not having the inclination to listen to 20 minutes of debate, what’s the justification for a municipal council to subsidise an aeroclub anyhow? Infrastructure, possibly. But a club for a hobby for the relatively well off?
Ahh please don’t get France confused with the UK. Flying, sailing, golf and tennis are not “rich man’s” sports here. They are open to everyone and people without much money can usually find a way to take part.They are often supported by the local community and in return support the local community where possible. The BIA is one prime example.

Nope, that might be what he has in mind for the proletariat, but the dream is to be a ward of the state bureaucrat who is paid to comment disdainfully on the activities of those who pay his salary, relieved of the expectation of providing a service to them while being respected by the brainwashed masses for the ability to whimsically ponder and philosophize, while running inconclusive experiments on the population for fun.

I’ve listened to it, interesting actually.
The subventions are very small (~2% of the club’s budget). The club runs social activities for schools, including special needs schools. One of the opposition’s councillors says “those subventions support children’s dreams”.
The mayor actually respond: “it’s indecent to put in the same sentence the words [children’s] dream and flying”.
Wooaa !
The while political scene defends the aeroclub against the ugly mayor. It’s an Easter miracle

The scary thing is you can substitute a lot of things for “flying” and it would still make sense by those people’s logic.
Like eating, watching movies, or having kids.
This has just made the BFM news channel!!
The piece appeared to be in support of the aeroclub, pointing out that gliding is about the most ecologically friendly form of flying you can get and showing how local disadvantaged youth can get in the air cheaply through the aeroclub.

Indeed. This is the best way to create antagonism against green movements. She does not seem to understand the concept of “win-win”, like Trump.
So maybe one of our French friends here can have someone whisper something like this in her ear:
“We love to fulfill the dream of our youngsters to enjoy our atmosphere, while at the same time protect it. We have therefore decided to increase our contribution to the aeroclub however conditional to them buying an electrical aircraft”
