London Luton NDB withdrawal from service

Just received this in AIS newletter:

LONDON LUTON (EGGW)
Our Ref: 03081
Year: 2020
Effective: 10/09/2020
Details:
LONDON LUTON (EGGW)

Delete NDB ‘LUT 345.0’ at 515340.69N 0001509.02W due to withdrawal from service.

Wow! What they are going to use? Just put a fix there to replace the NDB?

EGTR

I expect the Luuuu’on (the correct pronunciation if you live there) NDB is about as relevant as the Hilversum Radio transmitter whose name adorned the wonderful valve radios which my parents used to covertly listen to prohibited imperialist broadcasts while in communist Czechoslovakia

Sadly not one of the more usefull ones.

Firstly because you could never actually shoot an approach there and from an infringement point of view with it not being located on the airfield the situational awareness you can obtain from NDB/tDME isn’t available to you.

Of course what really should happen is the NDB approaches should have been allowed to be flown using GPS overlay.
