What is a comfortable cockpit?

No reason why aircraft seats can’t be properly padded and absorb G. If anything padding should help!

You’d have thought so, but padding can cause spinal injuries.

It can help, but you have to get it right.

I flew to Venice in a Diamond Katana DV20 last weekend and I realized that I’m either too old (unlikely) or too tall for this. And I wished to be in one of the usual Cessna or Piper types I fly. They’re by no means an example of comfortable cockpit design, but I found the Katana almost unbearable after the first hour of each leg (total flying time was 11 hours for the round trip). The seats are so low and the leg room is so sparse that I constantly had my knees angled. My back hurt, my knees hurt, and my bum heart.

Also, it seems Austrian airplanes when compared to US airplanes lack cup holders altogether.

In my view, this type of airplane really is a sports utility unit and should not be used for touring.

11 hours in a Katana. You are a masochist!

In fact, nobody ever said it was more than a trainer…

Well, the guy I flew with (and who owns it) sort of did. And he’s twice as old as I am, which got me thinking…
