C172 new seat belts

1 Post

Hello,

older Cessna 172 seat belts are of the usual 3-point no-pretensioner type. These have some important disadvantages:
- The shoulder strap does not hang safe to the main connector, so it may fall loose during flight and be forgotten there.
- They don’t have a pretensioner and I think that this makes them unsafe in case of a rapid deceleration.

So I’ve been looking into changing the front seat belts of our EASA-reg 1978 Cessna 172N with something safer.
I’ve found these two models:
- BAS Inc
- Aircraft Spruce 3-point These don’t need an STC if you already have a seat belt with a headliner attachment, which we have.
The first look better and safer, but they’ll need an EASA STC (do they have one?).

Has anyone put these in their C172? What are your impressions? Is there any other alternative?
