Just read this. Bit late I know but congratulations

Yesterday afternoon I took a mental note.

CJ2+, FL410, TAS 410, ISA +9, 800 lbs per hour total
On the way back, FL400, TAS 415, ISA +13, 840lbs per hour.

At FL260 (as usual when on an East Midlands arrival, descend to be level 60 before Biggin, goodness knows why) we are slower and burning 1300lb/hr

Book for the Mustang is 470pph at M0.57/FL410 for TAS of 330kts. It tends to outperform book airspeeds.

Either way, it’s ATC’s problem not yours (in so far as you’re paying the fuel bill for being level capped.)

When you think about how much traffic is being shoved through the airspace between London, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt it’s not unreasonable.

London area

CJ1+ gets around 0.66 Mach at 350pph a side at 410.

I would guess the CJ2s and up are slightly more efficient as they can get up to 430. Altitude makes a big difference.

CJ2 at altitude will be at the red line, 0.736 (or as close as you dare go to that), usually over 400 to a max of 410 TAS

OK so 60-70 knots faster. What do fuel flows look like?

If they let you that high… Europe, the inventor of city pair level caps…

True. Flying over here again you realise how unnecessarily stupid European regulation is. In any event, once you are talking to LC or Maastricht, you can get higher levels. It is only if you get shafted to Brussels etc that it is a problem.

Prob better cruising FL380+ than 320-370 in Europe

The fuel flow is impressive. Only about 250 liters per hour seems very reasonable for a twin jet. An older Lear 24 would probably burn four times as much fuel per hour and only go 100kt faster. At UK fuel prices the Mustang might even travel on less fuel money per mile than our piston Malibu.
