UK airfields with a half decent restaurant?

Wondered what recommendations people have regarding UK airfields with a good restaurant. The wife is not that keen on the £80 ropey hamburger, but might go for an £80 proper meal on or within walking distance of the field.

Any suggestions?

Other than Le Touqet, the best I've found is Colonsay: stunning scenery, and good food at the Colonsay Hotel (nothing 'gourmet', but a step up from fried breakfasts and burgers).

It's about a mile's walk to the hotel - or if you call they will pick you up.

Depends whether you include on-airport catering, and I'm guessing you are looking for something a little more upmarket than the (perfectly good for me) bacon butty/all day breakfast.

The hotel at Sywell seemed pretty good to me.

How about AV8 at Kemble?

Sunday Roast at Dunkeswell

I'm sure there are plenty more. Do you want to give some idea of where you fly from and the distance you'd consider?

UK airfields with a good restaurant

It depends on what you mean by a "good restaurant"

Shoreham (my base) is good if you like a 10 minute walk to one of the restaurants along the river.

I used to go to Lydd for a Sunday carvery some years ago which was quite different to the usual hamburger menu. Not sure what it's like now though. I think it was called the "biggles bar?"

Thanks all.

DavidC: I'm based in the Midlands but ready to consider anywhere in the UK or anywhere along the Northern France coastline. Trying to build up a visit list really.

Upmarket from the bacon butty - certainly, but doesn't need to be Heston Blumental or similar establishments, just clean and somewhere you'd be happy to take a first date . . .

Roger the Sywell and Dunkeswell recommendations - have visited them. Places with a hotel on the field or very close by would be good. Also planning to visit the Glenforsa sometime

Le Touquet is very hard to beat! The town is always lovely to stroll around.

There is also an excellent restaurant at Cherbourg which, along with Le Touquet, is one of the few French N. coastal airports to keep its Customs and so be usable for a flight from the UK.

Take her to L'envol on the airfield at St Omer - excellent food, very reasonable prices.

Compton Abbas serves good food and the restaurant has always been full when Iv'e called in. Has lots of locals too.

Approach can be choppy when a southerly blows.

White Waltham offers pretty decent food and a great atmosphere.
