(no idea what the thick horizontal line is for)
I think that’s supposed to be the 50th parallel
Amazing when was the last time a bureaucrat gave up control without blood? What happened?
Cant wait to fly DCT LHTL to EDMA. Although I have to say controllers have been very accommodating with short cuts.
Now if they would only lower the landing and airport fees (400 Euros) for LHBP. That would be another step closer to Nirvana.

Kudos to Hungarocontrol !
Amazing. Are any other countries planning the same degree of cleanup?
Next question, are airways the NDB’s of the 2015? (now that we finally seem to be getting rid of those…)

Yes, Free Route Airspace is a political goal, there is an adoption plan and slow but steady progress. It’s been there for several years but with restrictions (above FL245, only at night, etc.) so Hungary is the first one to generally apply it and in a way that affects GA.
There is little to no reason for having airways given that nobody relies on the navaids those airspaces used to be based on (many moons ago).
…. actually we are getting rid of VORs as well in next fiuture
That’s already happening. VORs used for enroute purposes or arrivals are being decommissioned. One example is EDDS Stuttgart, it used to have a VOR/DME in the south called Tango TGO used for all arrivals. It was turned off with the DME portion remaining and the new arrival uses the STG VOR located at the airfield (the one for the VOR approach) with a procedure turn. That might look like a small change but actually it marks a big difference: the previous VOR was placed to enable sensible arrivals while the new one just serves as an “emergency” provision. You would never handle a busy airport by letting aircraft fly to the threshold and then fly outbound for final. Everything is done using RNAV and vectors and VORs are not relevant anymore.
The official backup system for RNAV (read: GPS and Galileo) is going to be DME. There will be more DME stations in the future. They are much cheaper than VORs. Whether GA will be required to do RNAV with DME/DME is an open question. I hope not…
