Insurance companies, premiums, exclusions, etc

What is fairly unusual is a “foreign” company insuring a piston aircraft.

Maybe for the larger countries like the UK and Germany. In Sweden that is very common. My club has used (various) Danish insurers for at least 30 years.

No such list here in the UK.

Great, for the next plane I will send the CAA a binder from Somalia Aircraft Insurers which I’ve just incorporated.

I’m sure such a list must exist as well as a procedure in case the insurer is not found on the list.

Since insurance is a highly regulated business, I wish you good luck with setting up your company and getting a license to operate in Europe….you can start by studying the regulation on capital requirement :-)

That is not the issue here. The issue is that it is very protectionist to require that a company licensed and regulated by another EU country needs to be on some list with the LBA in order to conduct business in Germany. Not unusual, given that this is the financial sector and root of all evil, just very protectionist.

I hope that you havnt gone into the insurance business with Emil Savundra !!!

Never heard of such a list in my country of registration, the Netherlands. And I have never been asked by the Dutch CAA who my insurer is.

Aviabel

Hello there,

My research are going on, and thanks to @mrfacts, I have been put in relation with a UK broker.

A quite interesting offer was made (3700eur/year, with similar conditions from what I have now for 5000eur/year), which leads to a few considerations:
- exposure to the risk is not calculated in the same way by each company
- benefits are variable between companies
- as a result of that variable parameter, I could be considered as the “pigeon” in the story (don’t know if it makes sense in english :-)

Of course one should consider how well he is covered, and I wish some of you could give me some informations about AVIABEL (the insurance company offered by the broker).

Regards
Alexandre.

Aviabel are my insurers, and I never had any issue with them. Then again, my only dealings with them were annually paying the fee, not much ground for issues there.

More generally, but less certain: they seem to have almost a monopoly on aviation insurance in Belgium, and are regularly seen sponsoring fly-ins and other private aviation events.

I believe they were originally the aviation branch or sister company of La Royale Belge, itself the insurance specialist in the Société Générale de Belgique until the 1970’s or so.

The plane I fly is also insured by them.
It’s look like Verspiren is the broker and Aviabel the insurance company…
