Weekend escape to Brittany LFEQ LFEA

I have been going to Belle Isle (LFEA) for the last 40 years, it’s a lovely airfield and Island, very relaxed and in good weather an ideal spot for a weekend away. Quiberon (LFEQ) is another favourite, with a good clubhouse and helpful members….I had a brake problem there and was inundated with volunteer helpers to sort it.
And if you want more sophistication, La Baule (LFRE) is a short flight from Belle Isle, once again a good aeroclub and great beaches.
Pity we can’t get there at the moment without having to spend 14 days banged up at home.

I have been going to Belle Isle (LFEA) for the last 40 years,

I can only claim 25; but I keep going back at least twice a year.
I find everything about the Island is perfect.
Continue to curse Covid-19 for frustrating my trips there this year.

Thanks !
Can some of you confirm that you don’t need a french speaker for LFEA ?

That’s an interesting question indeed…
During AFIS times, certainly no, as the VAC doesn’t say “FR only” for the AFIS times.
But the interesting thing is that the VAC does not even say “FR only” for non-AFIS times. That is very unsual:

For comparison, see Quiberon, where this is mentioned, as usual:

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

I had a look at the VACs also on our airport database and totally failed to find this subtlety.

I can confirm it’s “Breton only” a Ile-Yeu

La Baule is charming and worth a tour, if anyone around let me know !

Just called LFEA. They speak english and routinely welcome british pilots.
I think when :

  • FR only is not written on the VAC/AIP

AND

  • there is an AFIS,

english is spoken by the AFIS and english is allowed during AFIS hours.
