When flying to the west coast of Scotland, flexibility of timing and accurate weather information are the keys (an instrument qualification helps too!). Generally, during the summer, if you can’t get into Oban one day, you can the next. We have managed to fly into Oban every weekend bar one since April this year by being flexible with our timing.

Oban Airport METARs
Oban Airport can sit in a localised weather hole. The reported weather (when available) can differ considerably from the conditions experienced in the local flying area. Use whatever means are at your disposal to assess the weather conditions in the area before setting out.

and best of all- 2 of the webcams at the SAMS University at Dunstaffnage (1 mile SSW of Oban airport) For some reason these webcams don’t work under Internet Explorer but work fine in Chrome, Firefox and IOS

Webcam 1 shows the general view towards the airfield.
Webcam 5 shows the dreaded hill behind the airfield and is very useful for assessing both cloudbase and vis!
