A few sunset pics from last night
Superb flying yesterday.
An icy start
Tacumshane Windmill – the last windmill in Ireland to work commerically
A cold day
Some evening light
Had a first tailwheel flight yesterday, and first flight for months so it was good to fly again !
Machine is a Jodel D113 (#Zorg )
Basic instruments but you rarely look at them. I have to get used to the small PFD. The ASI being low, it makes for a too big of a head movement.
Some interesting beast at the fuel pump :
Touch and goes are prohibited to preserve the grass runway so only one landing and it wasn’t too bad. I need a lot of practice for sure. I am glad to face a new challenge in my flying !
I really resonate with simple old planes like the little Jodel.
Re tailwheel training, the first time I landed my ex-Luscombe it was my first tailwheel landing and the first time I’d landed any plane in over 20 years. It was nearly perfect… and my instructor was bemused and puzzled. I then went on to perform a lot of very bad attempts at landing before (mostly) figuring it out
This is the best I can do, from a flight yesterday. Going nowhere these days
Even my practice-ILS place, Lydd, is shut

Nice, the airport looks like Chavenay?
I imagine the hassle you can fly tailwheels in grass runway all winter under two conditions
- You warm it and keep moving all the time (block time = engine time about same as airborn time)
- You clean it after you finish using water and hand at 0C deg
- You go elsewehere with hard runway for TnGs
Tour around southern Sweden last Saturday.
